Nigeria Digitizes Academic Credential Authentication in Major Policy Shift

The Federal Ministry of Education has officially automated the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials, moving the entire process to a digital platform. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance transparency, streamline data management, and improve public service delivery within Nigeria’s education sector.
Under the new system, all applications for credential verification must be processed strictly online through the Ministry’s official portal at essverify.education.gov.ng. Applicants are required to register and upload their supporting documents digitally. Additionally, they must coordinate with their awarding institutions to have academic transcripts sent directly to the Ministry via the official email address: ess1@education.gov.ng.
A significant benefit of this transition is the removal of the requirement for physical verification. The Ministry emphasized that applicants no longer need to visit the Federal Ministry of Education in person, as the new automated workflow handles the process electronically from start to finish.
