May 4, 2026
2 min read

Across Ghana, digital innovation is rapidly expanding, with young developers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners actively contributing to the country’s emerging digital economy.

Google  has announced the rollout of the first wave of 100,000 Google Career Certificate scholarships in Ghana, marking a major step in its commitment to strengthening digital skills across the country. The initiative builds on a pledge made during the opening of the Google AI Community Center in Accra, where the company committed to supporting Ghana’s fast-growing pool of young digital talent.

Across Ghana, digital innovation is rapidly expanding, with young developers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners actively contributing to the country’s emerging digital economy. From building agricultural technology solutions in Accra to scaling online businesses in Kumasi, Ghanaians are increasingly seeking practical skills to turn ideas into scalable ventures.

The scholarships are designed to provide access to flexible, online training programs developed by Google experts, enabling learners to become job-ready in high-growth fields within six months. The program aims to equip participants with hands-on skills that align with global job market demands and long-term career opportunities in the technology sector.

Participants will be able to choose from a range of specialized career tracks, including AI Essentials and AI Professional, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing and E-commerce, IT Support, Project Management, and UX Design. These courses cover in-demand skills such as generative AI usage, data visualization, cybersecurity fundamentals, cloud and network troubleshooting, digital campaign management, agile project delivery, and user experience design.

The scholarships will be delivered exclusively through Ghana’s One Million Coders (OMC) Program, a national initiative led by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, with the goal of training one million citizens in digital skills by 2030. Google is partnering with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) to integrate its certifications into this national framework, supporting the government’s broader digital empowerment agenda.

The initiative combines structured learning resources with national-scale execution, aiming to accelerate workforce readiness and expand access to globally recognized digital certifications. Applications for the first cohort are now open through the One Million Coders platform, with the program positioned as a key enabler for Ghana’s digital transformation journey.
