Vodacom Tanzania Revenue Jumps 22% as Customer Base Hits 27.7 Million

Looking ahead, the company said it expects to sustain “early double-digit” service revenue growth over the medium term, driven by continued investment in digital infrastructure, smartphone adoption and financial technology services.

Vodacom Tanzania Plc  has reported robust preliminary financial results for the year ended March 31, 2026, recording strong double-digit growth across revenue, customer acquisition and digital financial services.

The telecom operator posted a 21.8% increase in service revenue to TZS1.85 trillion, while total revenue climbed 22.1% to TZS1.88 trillion. Net profit after tax rose 18.4% year-on-year to TZS107.1 billion, supported by sustained momentum in M-Pesa and mobile data services.

Chief Executive Officer Philip Besiimire said the company added 5.1 million customers during the financial year, lifting its total customer base by 22.3% to 27.7 million subscribers. M-Pesa users grew 22.6% to 14.1 million, while smartphone users on the network surged by 31.5%.

M-Pesa remained the company’s largest revenue driver, generating TZS734.8 billion in revenue, up 24.5% from the previous year. Mobile data revenue also recorded strong growth, rising 29.5% to TZS546.7 billion as demand for broadband connectivity and smartphone usage accelerated across Tanzania.

To support future growth, Vodacom Tanzania invested TZS323.9 billion in capital expenditure during the year. The investments included the rollout of 444 new 4G sites and 25 additional 5G sites, including infrastructure expansion in rural areas through partnerships with the government.

The company also acquired a 50MHz spectrum block in the 3700MHz band at a cost of TZS49.8 billion to strengthen network capacity and enhance digital service delivery.

Although profitability was affected by temporary expenses related to an ongoing network modernization programme, Vodacom said underlying profit performance remained strong. Excluding one-off modernization costs, underlying net profit after tax would have reached TZS204.1 billion, more than double the previous year’s level.

Vodacom Tanzania also highlighted significant growth in its digital financial ecosystem. Its M-Wekeza investment platform surpassed TZS370 billion in customer investments since launch, while deposits on the M-Koba group savings platform exceeded TZS1 trillion during the year.
