MTN Mobile Money Uganda Clarifies CEO Appointment Process Amid Leadership Speculation

In a statement dated May 24, 2026, the company said the governance process related to the appointment of a substantive Chief Executive Officer is still ongoing and that no final decision has yet been made.

MTN Mobile Money Uganda  has issued a clarification regarding reports circulating in sections of the media about a new leadership appointment within the company. In a statement dated May 24, 2026, the company said the governance process related to the appointment of a substantive Chief Executive Officer is still ongoing and that no final decision has yet been made.

The company emphasized that, as a regulated financial services entity, it must follow all required governance, regulatory, and due diligence procedures before confirming any executive appointment. MTN Mobile Money Uganda noted that any official announcement regarding a permanent CEO will be communicated through the company’s authorized channels once the necessary approvals and processes have been completed.

In the meantime, the company confirmed that Sarah Bateta Okwi continues to lead the business in an acting capacity. The statement was issued to address speculation surrounding the leadership position and reassure stakeholders that formal procedures are being followed.
