Airtel Madagascar and Eutelsat Deepen Push for Rural Broadband Access
Through the partnership, Airtel Business is leveraging a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites positioned between 160 and 2,000 kilometres above Earth to deliver reliable, high-speed internet with low latency.
Airtel Madagascar and Eutelsat OneWeb are continuing to expand satellite-powered internet connectivity across Madagascar, bringing high-speed broadband services to some of the country’s most remote and underserved areas.
Through the partnership, Airtel Business is leveraging a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites positioned between 160 and 2,000 kilometres above Earth to deliver reliable, high-speed internet with low latency. The solution is designed to provide stable connectivity even in regions where traditional telecommunications infrastructure remains limited.
The satellite technology integrates with existing fibre optic and 4G networks, creating a more resilient and secure connectivity ecosystem. By combining multiple technologies, the solution ensures service continuity, optimal redundancy, and maximum availability for businesses and institutions that rely heavily on uninterrupted internet access.
Beyond enterprise connectivity, the initiative is also aimed at reducing the digital divide in rural communities by expanding access to digital opportunities and online services. Airtel Madagascar highlighted that the solution can support a wide range of use cases, from improving business performance to enabling mobile connectivity innovations.
One of the notable developments under the project includes successful railway connectivity tests that achieved download speeds of up to 100 Mbps aboard a moving train, signaling new possibilities for mobile broadband services in the transport sector.
To support adoption, Airtel Madagascar is also providing installation, onboarding, and dedicated technical support services, as part of its broader mission to democratize high-speed internet access across Madagascar.
