Chad Holds Talks With Telecom Operators Over Network Quality Concerns
During discussions, the telecom companies attributed some of the service challenges to fuel shortages needed to power transmission sites.
A high-level meeting was held on June 4, 2026, between Chad’s Minister of Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Digitalization and executives of the country’s two main mobile operators, Airtel Chad and Moov Africa Chad , to address ongoing complaints about poor network quality across the country.
The meeting, led by Haliki Choua Mahamat, focused on repeated service failures affecting users, including dropped calls, weak signal coverage, and slow or unstable internet connections. The Minister expressed strong dissatisfaction with the situation, noting that citizens continue to experience daily disruptions despite claims of ongoing investments by the operators.
During discussions, the telecom companies attributed some of the service challenges to fuel shortages needed to power transmission sites. However, the Minister dismissed this explanation, insisting that operators must find more reliable and sustainable solutions, including alternative energy sources, rather than relying on fuel-related excuses.
The government also stressed that telecom operators should make better use of existing national infrastructure, including investments in fiber optic networks and over 200 transmission sites deployed across the country. It further urged both companies to resolve internal disagreements and improve infrastructure sharing in order to enhance service delivery.
The Minister issued a strong warning, stating that continued poor service could lead to serious consequences for the companies’ leadership, including possible removal or forced departures of senior executives. Formal letters have also been sent to the parent companies of both operators, urging immediate intervention to resolve the situation and restore acceptable service quality.
