Zimbabwe Boosts Rural Connectivity as POTRAZ Upgrades Digital Centres Nationwide
As part of its national connectivity programme, POTRAZ reported that 98 Digital Centres have been upgraded with Starlink technology across Zimbabwe, including 10 centres in Masvingo Province.
The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) marked the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2026 (World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2026) with activities focused on strengthening digital infrastructure and expanding connectivity across the country.
The commemorations included the official handover of the Nemamwa Digital Centre, highlighting efforts to improve access to ICT services in rural and underserved communities. The centre is part of broader initiatives aimed at building more resilient and connected digital ecosystems in line with the year’s theme, “Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World.”
As part of its national connectivity programme, POTRAZ reported that 98 Digital Centres have been upgraded with Starlink technology across Zimbabwe, including 10 centres in Masvingo Province. In addition, 59 Digital Centres and post offices have been solarised to improve service reliability and ensure sustainable operations.
The regulator also emphasized ongoing efforts to promote digital inclusion in education. To date, more than 25,000 computers have been distributed to over 1,400 schools nationwide, with additional allocations in Masvingo Province. These initiatives aim to bridge the digital divide by providing learners with improved access to technology, internet connectivity, and digital learning tools across Zimbabwe.
