Nigeria Explores Technology-Driven Policing with New AI and Connectivity Initiatives
Discussions focused on opportunities to integrate police stations into the national Project BRIDGE broadband infrastructure initiative by positioning them as Points of Presence on the network.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy , Dr. Bosun Tijani, has held discussions with the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to advance the digital transformation of policing across the country.
The meeting follows the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund. Discussions focused on opportunities to integrate police stations into the national Project BRIDGE broadband infrastructure initiative by positioning them as Points of Presence on the network. The move is expected to expand connectivity while supporting the modernization of police operations and service delivery.
Officials also explored how enhanced digital infrastructure can help improve operational efficiency, strengthen communication capabilities, and accelerate the adoption of technology across the Nigeria Police Force.
A key highlight of the engagement was a demonstration of an AI-powered, voice-enabled local language statement capture and case management platform developed by Nigerian technology company Awarri. The solution is designed to improve the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of investigative processes by enabling officers to capture statements and manage cases using local languages and artificial intelligence capabilities.
Deployment of the platform is expected to begin in Abuja and Lagos in the coming weeks before being expanded to other parts of the country.
The initiative forms part of Nigeria’s broader efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and ensure public institutions are equipped to leverage emerging technologies to improve service delivery and outcomes for citizens.
