Minister Tijani Urges Nigerian Students to Lead Tech Innovation at New NITDA Hub in OAU

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy , Dr. Bosun Tijani, has urged Nigerian students to take a leading role in driving the country’s technological advancement. He made the call during the official commissioning and handover of the Renewed Hope–NITDA Innovation Hub at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The new facility, established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)  in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative, is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world technological applications. It is intended to serve as a practical space where academic theory is transformed into innovative digital solutions.

According to Dr. Tijani, the innovation hub represents more than just physical infrastructure, describing it as a direct investment in the potential of Nigerian youth. He noted that empowering students with access to modern tools and technology is essential for building a strong and competitive digital economy.

The facility is equipped with advanced laboratories focused on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, and the Internet of Things. Officials say the hub will be accessible to the wider community, but its primary purpose is to serve as a launchpad for students to develop innovative solutions.

Dr. Tijani further emphasized that the initiative is part of the federal government’s broader effort to close the long-standing divide between academic institutions and the rapidly evolving global tech industry. He encouraged students and the university community to fully utilize the facility to create solutions that will strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and position the country as a global technology hub.
