Ghana is advancing efforts to create a safer and more inclusive digital marketplace through a stakeholder consultation on a National E-Commerce Practitioners Guide. The initiative was led by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) in partnership with GIZ Ghana under the Pan-African E-Commerce Initiative (PeCI).
The focus group discussion brought together regulators, industry representatives, development partners, and e-commerce stakeholders to examine challenges affecting online trade in Ghana. Key issues discussed included consumer protection, cybersecurity, digital payments, and the need for stronger coordination among regulatory bodies to support the growth of the country’s digital economy.
Participants explored a range of technology-driven solutions aimed at enhancing trust and efficiency within the e-commerce sector. These included the use of artificial intelligence-powered tools, automated monitoring systems, improved regulatory collaboration, and other emerging technologies designed to strengthen oversight and promote sustainable growth in online commerce.
Speaking during the engagement, Kevor Mark-Oliver emphasized the importance of collective action among public and private sector stakeholders in building a secure, trusted, and inclusive digital economy. He noted that collaboration would be essential to ensuring that Ghana’s digital commerce ecosystem remains resilient and responsive to evolving market demands.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s digital transformation agenda by improving the regulatory environment for e-commerce, enhancing consumer confidence, and supporting innovation in online trade. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the proposed framework would contribute to a more secure and competitive digital marketplace capable of driving economic growth and expanding opportunities for businesses and consumers alike.
