June 17, 2026
2 min read

Airtel Malawi Plc said it remains focused on expanding 5G readiness, improving rural connectivity, and enhancing digital services across the country.

Airtel Malawi Plc  has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Malawi’s digital transformation following a high-level engagement with the newly appointed Board of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA)  during a familiarisation visit to the company’s head office in Lilongwe.

The visit formed part of MACRA’s broader programme to engage licensed telecommunications operators and better understand their operations, strategic priorities, and sector challenges. During the discussions, Airtel Malawi Plc presented insights into its ongoing initiatives, including network expansion, digital innovation, and efforts to enhance customer experience, while also highlighting areas requiring continued regulatory collaboration.

Managing Director Aashish Dutt reiterated the company’s commitment to working closely with regulators to accelerate digital inclusion in Malawi. He emphasized Airtel’s ongoing investments in innovative technologies and expanded connectivity, aligning with national development goals, including the Malawi 2063 vision of a digitally inclusive and connected nation.

The Chairperson of the MACRA Board, Chancy Gondwe, commended Airtel Malawi Plc for its sustained investment in telecommunications infrastructure, digital services, and customer-focused innovation. He noted that such efforts are instrumental in bridging the digital divide and stressed the importance of continued collaboration to build a safe, competitive, and forward-looking telecommunications sector.

MACRA itself, formally the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority, used the visit to strengthen its engagement with operators as it seeks to improve regulatory oversight and industry cooperation.

Airtel Malawi Plc said it remains focused on expanding 5G readiness, improving rural connectivity, and enhancing digital services across the country. The company emphasized that these priorities are designed to support national development objectives by improving inclusion, connectivity, and economic productivity for all Malawians.
