MACRA Praises Airtel Malawi for Advancing Digital Transformation and Connectivity Goals
Airtel Malawi Managing Director Aashish Dutt reaffirmed the company’s commitment to digital inclusion and continued partnership with MACRA.
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Board Chairperson, Counsel Chancy Gondwe, has praised Airtel Malawi Plc for its role in advancing digital transformation and supporting the national development agenda under Malawi 2063. He made the remarks during a stakeholder engagement meeting held in Lilongwe, where discussions focused on expanding digital connectivity and strengthening collaboration between regulators and industry players.
Gondwe emphasized that strong and reliable connectivity remains the foundation for building a truly digital economy. He noted that MACRA, as a responsive regulator, is committed to working closely with telecommunications operators to develop data-driven solutions that accelerate Malawi’s digital transformation and expand access to essential digital services.
MACRA Director General Mayamiko Nkoloma also highlighted ongoing challenges in the sector, particularly the issue of device affordability. He pointed out that only about 35% of Malawians are currently digitally connected, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to ensure more citizens can access the tools required to participate in the digital economy.
Airtel Malawi Managing Director Aashish Dutt reaffirmed the company’s commitment to digital inclusion and continued partnership with MACRA. He referenced initiatives such as MACRA’s Connect-a-School project and Airtel’s Adopt-a-School programme, noting that these collaborations are already helping to improve connectivity and transform learning environments across the country.
