Zimbabwe Pushes AI Adoption for Inclusive Development at National Transformation Conference
The Ministry reaffirmed that Artificial Intelligence is becoming a key driver of innovation, economic transformation, and inclusive development, while underscoring the importance of building Africa’s digital capabilities and shaping its own technological future.
The Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services of Zimbabwe has highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing national and continental development following its participation in the AI for National Transformation: Zimbabwe 2.0 Conference, held in Masvingo from 16–17 June 2026.
The conference, hosted by the Artificial Intelligence Institute Africa (AIIA) in partnership with Zimpapers, was convened under the theme “Leveraging AI for Innovation, Policy and Inclusive National Development.” It brought together policymakers, technology experts, financial sector leaders, academics, innovators, and researchers to examine how AI can be used to address socio-economic challenges in Zimbabwe and across Africa.
Discussions during the two-day event focused on AI adoption, digital innovation, policy development, data governance, skills development, and inclusive economic growth. Participants noted that Africa continues to face challenges in technological advancement, particularly concerning reliance on foreign data infrastructure. They emphasized the need to strengthen local AI capabilities and invest in digital infrastructure to ensure greater regional control and accountability.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr. D. Chimhande, Director for Infrastructure Planning and Environmental Management, stressed the importance of collaboration and partnerships in developing AI-driven solutions. He encouraged young people to leverage emerging digital opportunities to build innovative ICT solutions that address Africa’s unique needs while creating sustainable economic opportunities.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Mr. P. Sibanda, Chief Director in the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, expressed appreciation to organisers, speakers, and delegates for their contributions. He commended the collaborative spirit demonstrated throughout the conference and wished participants safe travels.
