Kenya ICT Authority Trains and Graduates 150 Youth Under SmartAcademy Initiative

ICT Authority  has marked a major milestone in digital empowerment efforts after celebrating the graduation of 150 young people trained under a Digital Skills Training Programme held in Kitui County, Kenya.

The initiative was delivered in partnership with Kitui County Government, SoftTech Technologies, and Meta through the Teki programme, under the broader SmartAcademy initiative aimed at equipping youth with practical digital competencies for the modern economy.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by Kitui Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, alongside ICT Authority Director for Partnership, Innovation and Capacity Development, Lynette Ringeera. The event brought together county leadership, ICT sector stakeholders, and programme partners to celebrate the successful completion of the training.

Participants were awarded certificates after completing training focused on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and the use of online platforms to expand market access and improve livelihoods. The programme is designed to support socio-economic development by enabling youth to leverage digital tools for business and community impact.

Beneficiaries shared testimonies highlighting how digital skills have transformed their livelihoods, with practical applications in areas such as livestock farming, poultry management, and community-based literacy programmes across the county.

One of the standout graduates, Yvonne Kilonzo, was recognized as the top-performing participant for her exceptional performance, creativity, and commitment throughout the programme.

The event also featured senior county officials, including Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani and various County Executive Committee Members overseeing ICT, finance, energy, and social services, underscoring the county’s commitment to advancing digital inclusion and youth empowerment.
