Nigeria Strengthens Education Data Systems Through Smart Board Deployment

The Federal Government has delivered and installed interactive Smart Boards at the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as part of efforts to improve school data collection, monitoring, and education planning nationwide.
The deployment, carried out at the Ogun SUBEB Secretariat Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, forms part of a broader initiative to establish a technology-driven national education database and enhance the management of education data across Nigeria.
Speaking during the presentation and installation exercise, Chairman of Ogun SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, described the initiative as a significant step toward building a modern and digitally enabled education management system.
He assured that the devices would be utilized strictly for their intended purpose and commended the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for fulfilling the Federal Government’s commitment to equip state ministries of education and Universal Basic Education Boards across the country with the technology.
According to Ifede, the installation of the interactive Smart Boards at both Ogun SUBEB and the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology will improve data collection, management, and reporting within the education sector.
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) State Coordinator, Sola Badmus, described the handover as a historic development, noting that the technology would transform school monitoring and data collection processes in Ogun State.
He said the digital tools would provide policymakers with more reliable information to support evidence-based decision-making and educational planning.
During the installation exercise, Adewale Adesanya of the Federal Ministry of Education, who oversees Lagos and Ogun States, explained that the Smart Boards would support the Annual School Census through the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS).
According to him, the technology will enable the Federal Government to monitor school data across all states more effectively, helping to improve policy formulation, resource allocation, and educational planning.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to digitize Nigeria’s education sector and establish accurate, real-time data systems that can support effective governance and improved learning outcomes nationwide.
