Speaking during a session on ICT and the digital economy, Dr. Andualem Admassie emphasized Ethiopia’s ongoing digital transformation and the role of telecom reforms and digital infrastructure in expanding inclusion.

Safaricom  Ethiopia has highlighted the growing importance of digital transformation in driving Ethiopia’s economic development, following its participation in the UK–Ethiopia Trade and Investment Forum held in London on 18 June 2026.

The forum brought together government officials, investors, and business leaders from both countries to discuss investment opportunities and deepen commercial ties across sectors including logistics, agribusiness, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, and the digital economy.

Safaricom Ethiopia was represented at the event by Chairman of the Safaricom Ethiopia Advisory Board, Ermias Eshetu, and Chief External Affairs Officer, Dr. Andualem Admassie.

Speaking during a session on ICT and the digital economy, Dr. Andualem Admassie emphasized Ethiopia’s ongoing digital transformation and the role of telecom reforms and digital infrastructure in expanding inclusion. He stated that digital transformation is no longer optional but a critical enabler of economic growth, financial inclusion, and social development.

He further noted that continued investment in connectivity and digital services presents Ethiopia with a significant opportunity to accelerate innovation, create jobs, and unlock new opportunities for businesses and communities across the country.

The Ethiopian delegation, led by Foreign Minister H.E. Dr. Gedion Timothewos, used the forum to showcase Ethiopia’s investment potential, strengthen UK–Ethiopia commercial relations, and promote partnerships aimed at supporting the country’s broader economic transformation agenda.
