Namibia President Inaugurates Ondangwa Digital Technology Hub in Oshana

Namibian President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has officially arrived in Ondangwa to inaugurate the newly upgraded Rössing Foundation Ondangwa Centre, which has been transformed into the Ondangwa Digital Technology Hub and Conferencing Centre. The project marks a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to expand digital infrastructure, promote innovation, and strengthen community development in the Oshana Region.

The President was welcomed by Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge as hundreds of residents gathered to witness the official handover of the modernized facility to the people of Oshana. The upgraded multipurpose hall, which now accommodates up to 800 people, is expected to serve as an important venue for learning, innovation, conferences, and community engagement.

Originally established in 1983, the Rössing Foundation Centre has supported local communities for more than four decades. Over the years, the facility has evolved to meet changing educational and social needs. Renovation work on the centre began in January and was completed over approximately seven months, involving 179 workers, including local contractors, highlighting the project’s contribution to employment creation and local economic participation.

The upgraded centre now places a strong emphasis on digital transformation, research, and skills development. Among its new features are 73 interactive science exhibition models donated by the China Foundation for Development of Science and Technology. The exhibits are designed to simplify scientific concepts and create engaging learning experiences for students, educators, and visitors.

The Ondangwa Digital Technology Hub is expected to become a key regional centre for digital education, innovation, scientific learning, conferences, and community activities. The facility aims to equip young people and communities with essential digital skills while fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Speaking ahead of the official inauguration, President Nandi-Ndaitwah praised the Rössing Foundation for its longstanding contribution to community development, saying the organization has “truly touched the lives of the people.” She described the project as a practical example of corporate investment that other companies could emulate.

The President also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with Rössing Uranium in advancing national development objectives. She said the partnership demonstrates how collaboration between government and the private sector can support education, innovation, and community empowerment across Namibia.
