Airtel Malawi Forecasts Up to 57% Decline in First-Half Profit
In a trading statement issued in compliance with the Malawi Stock Exchange's listing requirements, the telecommunications operator said it expects profit after tax for the six-month period to range between MK9.6 billion and MK11.7 billion.
Airtel Malawi Plc has projected a significant decline in its profitability for the half-year ending 30 June 2026, citing an expected drop in profit after tax compared with the same period last year.
In a trading statement issued in compliance with the Malawi Stock Exchange’s listing requirements, the telecommunications operator said it expects profit after tax for the six-month period to range between MK9.6 billion and MK11.7 billion. This represents a 47% to 57% decline from the MK22.4 billion profit after tax reported for the corresponding period ended 30 June 2025.
The company noted that listed firms are required to publish a trading statement whenever there is reasonable certainty that financial results will differ by at least 20% from those of the previous corresponding period. Airtel Malawi said its latest forecast meets that threshold, prompting the disclosure to shareholders and the market.
Airtel Malawi also clarified that the information contained in the trading statement has not been reviewed or reported on by its external auditors. The company added that its financial results for the half-year ending 30 June 2026 will be published within the regulatory timeframe after they have been reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors.
