The initiative aligns with presidential directives to strengthen child protection as a key pillar of Egypt's digital transformation strategy while preserving the country's values and cultural identity.

Egypt has unveiled a new licensing framework for a Child Safe Mobile SIM, a significant initiative aimed at improving online safety for children. The announcement was made by Mohamed Shamroukh, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Board Member of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) , during a signing ceremony attended by Raafat Hendy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

The initiative aligns with presidential directives to strengthen child protection as a key pillar of Egypt’s digital transformation strategy while preserving the country’s values and cultural identity. Through the new licensing framework, Egypt’s licensed mobile network operators will introduce Child Safe Mobile SIMs designed to protect children from harmful online content, provide parents with greater control over their children’s access to social media platforms, and encourage the safe and responsible use of digital technologies among young users.

Shamroukh described the initiative as an important milestone in creating a safer digital environment for future generations. He emphasized that the project reflects the successful collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing Egypt’s digital agenda while ensuring that child safety remains at the heart of the country’s evolving digital ecosystem.

The initiative has been launched in partnership with Egypt’s four licensed mobile operators—Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, Telecom Egypt, and e& Egypt. Shamroukh expressed his appreciation to the operators and their leadership for supporting the rollout of the child-focused service.

He also acknowledged the contributions of technology partner Cyshield, particularly Managing Director Mostafa Essa, as well as international partner KIDZONET and its Managing Director Nidal Taha, for their role in developing the initiative. According to Shamroukh, the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to building a digital future where innovation, inclusion, and child protection go hand in hand.
