The Ministry showcased its technology talent development initiatives during the WorkShift Summit 2026, an event focused on the future of freelancing, flexible work models, and the digital economy.

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT)  has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping young people with digital skills and expanding freelancing opportunities as part of the country’s broader digital economy strategy.

The Ministry showcased its technology talent development initiatives during the WorkShift Summit 2026, an event focused on the future of freelancing, flexible work models, and the digital economy. Held under the patronage of the MCIT, the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the summit brought together government leaders, technology industry representatives, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to discuss the future of work in Egypt.

Representing the Ministry, ICT Minister’s Advisor for Technology Talent Development Hoda Baraka highlighted the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the global labour market, noting that AI is reshaping industries, creating new career opportunities, and increasing demand for advanced digital skills. She emphasized that preparing young people to adapt to these changes is now a national priority.

The Ministry reiterated that investing in people remains central to Egypt’s Digital Egypt strategy, with initiatives designed to prepare the next generation for careers in artificial intelligence, data science, software development, cybersecurity, digital arts, entrepreneurship, and freelancing. Through programs such as Digital Egypt Pioneers, the government aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Egyptian talent in both domestic and international markets.

MCIT also highlighted the role of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) in connecting digital skills development with employment opportunities. Through initiatives including Future Work Is Digital (Egypt FWD), ITIDA Gigs, and other freelancer support programs, the agency is helping young Egyptians build market-ready skills while linking them to international clients and digital services platforms.

The Ministry stressed that building a thriving freelance economy requires more than technical training. It called for an integrated ecosystem that includes digital payment solutions, financial inclusion, social protection, supportive legislation, simplified taxation, professional mentoring, and access to collaborative workspaces to enable sustainable careers in the digital economy.

Officials also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to digital opportunities across all regions of Egypt, ensuring women, graduates from diverse academic backgrounds, and young professionals outside major urban centres can participate in the country’s digital transformation.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Ministry of Labour and MCIT witnessed the signing of several agreements aimed at strengthening Egypt’s freelancing ecosystem and supporting the continued growth of the country’s digital economy.
