The minister emphasized that digital transformation should be treated as a cross-cutting national development agenda capable of promoting social inclusion, driving economic development and ensuring that public services become more accessible, transparent and efficient.

Mozambique’s Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation , América Muchanga, has called for accelerated implementation of the country’s digital transformation agenda, describing it as a key driver of state modernization, economic growth and improved public service delivery.

Speaking at the opening of the II Sector Coordinating Council in Chidenguele, Gaza Province, Muchanga said information and communication technologies are critical to enhancing the efficiency of government services, reducing operational costs and bringing public administration closer to citizens. The meeting, which runs until July 3, brings together government officials, technical experts and development partners to review the sector’s performance and align priorities for the next phase of Mozambique’s digital transformation.

The minister emphasized that digital transformation should be treated as a cross-cutting national development agenda capable of promoting social inclusion, driving economic development and ensuring that public services become more accessible, transparent and efficient. He also called for stronger institutional coordination to accelerate strategic initiatives, particularly the expansion of digital connectivity, improved interoperability between government systems and the deployment of inclusive technologies that guarantee universal access to public services regardless of citizens’ location.

Held under the theme “Accelerating Digital Transformation to Serve the Citizen Wherever They Are,” the council is providing a platform for stakeholders to assess progress, address existing challenges and define priorities for implementing digital transformation policies across the country.

Gaza Province Secretary of State Jaime Bessa Neto welcomed the hosting of the meeting in Chidenguele, highlighting the area’s economic, tourism and social potential. He commended the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation for its efforts to modernize public administration, expand digital inclusion and improve service delivery through technology.

Bessa Neto also reaffirmed the commitment of provincial authorities to advancing the national digital transformation agenda, pointing to ongoing initiatives aimed at modernizing administrative processes, reducing paper-based operations and improving efficiency in public sector management.

The II Sector Coordinating Council concludes on July 3 with plenary sessions, technical discussions, sector presentations and working groups focused on strengthening digital transformation strategies and building a more efficient, inclusive and citizen-centred government.
