Gabon Inaugurates First Tier III Datacenter to Boost Digital Sovereignty
The facility was officially inaugurated on July 4, 2026, under the leadership of Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who described digital infrastructure as a strategic national asset alongside energy and transport systems.
Gabon has reached a major milestone in its digital transformation with the inauguration of its first Tier III international-standard datacenter, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country’s digital sovereignty. The facility was officially inaugurated on July 4, 2026, under the leadership of Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who described digital infrastructure as a strategic national asset alongside energy and transport systems.
The datacenter was developed by ST DIGITAL GABON, a company led by Laïka Mba. Built to Tier III international standards, the facility is designed to provide high levels of reliability, availability and security for data hosting, enabling Gabon to store sensitive government and business data within its borders while reducing reliance on foreign digital infrastructure.
Government officials said the new facility will play a critical role in supporting the country’s long-term digital transformation agenda by providing secure hosting capabilities for digital public services, cybersecurity initiatives, artificial intelligence applications and business operations. The project is expected to strengthen national resilience while creating the digital foundation needed to support economic growth and technological innovation.
During the inauguration, the Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation and ST DIGITAL GABON signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding access to the new infrastructure. Under the agreement, startups supported by the ministry will be able to access professional hosting services at preferential rates, providing emerging businesses with enterprise-grade digital infrastructure to support their growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mark-Alexandre Doumba said digital infrastructure has become the foundation for modern public services, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and business competitiveness. He noted that the initiative aligns with President Oligui Nguema’s vision of using digital technology as a catalyst for modernizing the state and creating new opportunities for Gabonese youth.
The inauguration represents a dual commitment by the Gabonese government to strengthen national digital sovereignty while fostering an inclusive innovation ecosystem. By combining world-class digital infrastructure with support for local startups and entrepreneurs, Gabon aims to accelerate the development of its digital economy and position itself as a growing technology hub in Central Africa.
