Orange Sierra Leone CEO Inspires Girls to Pursue STEM Careers at School Tour
Orange Sierra Leone said it was proud to support the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting innovation, digital inclusion and STEM education across the country through continued collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation.
The Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone, Madam Aïcha Touré, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing digital inclusion and encouraging more girls to pursue careers in science and technology during the 2026 Careers in STEM School Tour. The event, organized by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MOCTI) , took place at Annie Walsh Memorial School and was hosted by Communications Minister Salima Bah.
The programme brought together more than 200 female students, with Madam Touré sharing her personal journey as an engineer and technology executive. She encouraged the students, particularly young girls, to embrace careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), urging them to pursue opportunities in the sector with confidence, curiosity and determination.
Highlighting Orange Sierra Leone’s contribution to digital skills development, Touré said the company operates seven Orange Digital Centres across the country, including four dedicated exclusively to empowering women. She noted that the centres have delivered free digital skills training to more than 8,500 young people over the past four years, underscoring the operator’s commitment to expanding access to technology education.
Also speaking at the event, Communications Minister Salima Bah encouraged the students to take advantage of available learning opportunities and pursue STEM careers, stressing the importance of increasing female participation and leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Sierra Leone and beyond. The event was also attended by the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey.
The school tour concluded with the launch of Annie Walsh Memorial School’s first Tech Club and the presentation of digital kits to support practical digital learning.
