The reaffirmation of ties comes as both countries seek to deepen collaboration in areas such as digital transformation, innovation and economic development, reinforcing the strategic partnership that has grown over decades of diplomatic engagement.

Lesotho has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with China as the Asian nation marks 105 years since the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), highlighting decades of cooperation that have contributed to the Kingdom’s development across infrastructure, technology, education and economic sectors.

The renewed commitment was underscored during a celebration hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho to commemorate the anniversary of the CPC. The event brought together government officials, diplomats and other stakeholders to reflect on China’s transformation and its longstanding partnership with Lesotho.

Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho Yang Xiaokun said the Communist Party of China has played a central role in driving the country’s remarkable economic and social transformation over the past century. He noted that under the Party’s leadership, China has made significant strides in poverty reduction, industrialisation, technological advancement and infrastructure development, while emerging as a major contributor to global economic growth.

The ambassador said China has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty and continues to pursue high-quality development focused on innovation, green growth and technological progress. He added that the country is prioritising new productive forces, including advances in artificial intelligence, strategic industries, aerospace, new energy and modern manufacturing, to support sustainable economic development.

He also highlighted China’s commitment to peaceful development and international cooperation, saying the country remains focused on expanding mutually beneficial partnerships while contributing to global peace and stability.

The publication noted that Lesotho and China continue to enjoy strong diplomatic relations built on mutual respect and shared development goals. Their cooperation spans infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, technology, trade and cultural exchanges, with China supporting a number of development projects in the Kingdom.
