UNDP Launches ManuTech UniPod to Drive Manufacturing Innovation in Nigeria

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)  has launched the ManuTech UniPod in Nigeria, an innovation hub designed to strengthen research, manufacturing and entrepreneurship while supporting the country’s industrial and technological development.

The facility was unveiled in partnership with the Abia State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as part of efforts to create an ecosystem where ideas, research and manufacturing converge to address real-world challenges and create economic opportunities.

UNDP said the launch reflects the impact of collaboration between government, development partners and academia in advancing innovation-led development. The organisation commended the Abia State Government, led by Governor Alex Otti, for fostering an enabling environment for innovation and supporting initiatives aimed at driving technological and industrial transformation.

UNDP also acknowledged TETFund for its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem and recognised the support of the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, in promoting innovation, research and stronger links between higher education and industry.

According to UNDP, the ManuTech UniPod is intended to serve as a platform for innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and students to develop solutions that can transform Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. The initiative is expected to promote collaboration, encourage technology-driven innovation and contribute to the country’s broader industrialisation and economic development agenda.

The launch marks another step in efforts to build a more innovation-driven manufacturing ecosystem in Nigeria by leveraging research, technology and partnerships to accelerate sustainable economic growth.
