The discussions were aligned with Ethio telecom’s Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 strategy and focused on expanding the partnership beyond traditional telecommunications infrastructure toward a broader business, innovation, and digital ecosystem collaboration.

Ethio telecom  Chief Executive Officer, Frehiwot Tamru, and Huawei  Northern Africa President, Mr. Li Shen, together with their executive leadership teams, held high-level strategic discussions to further strengthen their long-standing strategic partnership and accelerate the growth of Ethiopia’s Enterprise and Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) markets through innovative digital solutions.

The discussions were aligned with Ethio telecom’s Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 strategy and focused on expanding the partnership beyond traditional telecommunications infrastructure toward a broader business, innovation, and digital ecosystem collaboration. Both companies reaffirmed their shared commitment to jointly driving Ethiopia’s digital transformation by creating sustainable value for businesses, communities, and the wider digital economy.

A key focus of the meeting was the joint development of integrated, industry-specific digital solutions that combine advanced connectivity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), data center services, and digital platforms to accelerate the digital transformation of enterprises across key sectors of the economy.

The leadership teams also discussed strengthening the digital ecosystem for Enterprise and SME customers by integrating innovative business solutions with the telebirr platform, enabling digital payments, financial services, business management tools, e-commerce, and other value-added services that empower businesses to improve productivity, expand their markets, and enhance competitiveness.

Recognizing the importance of local innovation and faster service delivery, the discussions emphasized strengthening local software development, solution customization, system integration, and technical support through enhanced local engineering capabilities, solution architects, and research and development collaboration. Both companies agreed that closer collaboration between their technical teams will accelerate innovation, improve responsiveness to customer requirements, and enable the rapid development of solutions tailored to Ethiopia’s evolving market needs.

The meeting further explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in expanding smartphone affordability and digital device accessibility through innovative financing models and broader market initiatives. Both companies recognized that increasing access to affordable smart devices is fundamental to accelerating digital inclusion and enabling greater participation in Ethiopia’s growing digital economy.

Beyond technology and business growth, both companies emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives and corporate social responsibility. The discussions highlighted opportunities to work together in promoting digital inclusion, digital literacy, rural connectivity, digital education, community empowerment, and sustainable digital infrastructure, reaffirming their shared commitment to delivering meaningful social and economic impact.

The leadership also agreed to strengthen collaboration in marketing communications, customer education, and digital awareness initiatives to accelerate the adoption of innovative digital services. Joint efforts will focus on developing creative campaigns, educational content, promotional materials, and customer engagement initiatives that enhance awareness and maximize the value of Ethio telecom’s expanding portfolio of digital products and services, including telebirr and enterprise digital solutions.

Huawei reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting Ethio telecom’s transformation into a leading technology-driven digital services company (TechCo). The company expressed its readiness to deepen collaboration in enterprise innovation, SME empowerment, digital ecosystem development, solution co-creation, and regional growth opportunities, supporting Ethio telecom’s ambition to expand digital innovation beyond Ethiopia into regional and African markets.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to translate these strategic priorities into concrete initiatives that will accelerate Ethiopia’s digital transformation, unlock new opportunities for enterprises and SMEs, strengthen digital inclusion, and create scalable digital solutions capable of serving markets across Africa.
