The agreement, signed at the NDPC headquarters, formalizes an existing partnership between the two organizations and supports the implementation of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act), 2023 through a public-private partnership approach.

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC)  has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Power Engineers of Nigeria (CIPEN)  to strengthen collaboration on data protection compliance and capacity building within the country’s power sector.

The agreement, signed at the NDPC headquarters, formalizes an existing partnership between the two organizations and supports the implementation of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act), 2023 through a public-private partnership approach.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, said the Commission’s broad mandate requires collaboration with professional bodies and industry stakeholders. He noted that the partnership with CIPEN reflects the Commission’s commitment to leveraging public-private partnerships to promote compliance with Nigeria’s data protection framework.

Olatunji added that the collaboration is already underway, with the NDPC providing data protection training to members of CIPEN. He said the initiative will benefit both organizations while helping to strengthen data governance and compliance across Nigeria’s power sector.

CIPEN President Engr. Israel Abraham welcomed the agreement, expressing confidence that its implementation would enhance data protection practices within the industry. He described the MoU as the beginning of a more strategic and impactful partnership between the institute and the NDPC.

The partnership is expected to support knowledge sharing, professional capacity development and the adoption of stronger data protection standards as Nigeria continues to expand compliance with its data protection law across critical sectors of the economy.
