Airtel Uganda Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Transformation in Meeting with ICT Minister

Airtel Uganda  has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Uganda’s digital transformation agenda following a courtesy visit by the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Soumendra Sahu, to the newly appointed Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba.

During the meeting, Sahu congratulated the minister on her appointment and reiterated Airtel Uganda’s commitment to partnering with the government to accelerate digital inclusion and expand access to digital services across the country.

A key focus of the discussions was increasing access to smartphones, with both parties recognizing the growing importance of smart devices as essential tools for education, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and participation in Uganda’s digital economy.

Airtel Uganda said expanding smartphone adoption will play a critical role in enabling more Ugandans to access online learning opportunities, digital financial services and other technology-driven solutions that support economic growth and social development.

The operator also welcomed the minister’s recognition of Airtel Uganda’s continued contribution to connecting communities through sustained investments in network expansion, digital innovation and initiatives aimed at empowering schools, young people and underserved communities.

The engagement underscores the company’s ongoing collaboration with the Ugandan government as it continues to invest in telecommunications infrastructure and digital inclusion programmes designed to bridge the digital divide and support the country’s broader ICT development goals.
