Japan Donates ICT Equipment to 15 Nigerian Colleges of Education
Under the programme, the 15 Colleges of Education received laptops, tablets, desktop computers, smart boards, projectors, printers and backup hard drives to strengthen teacher education, improve digital literacy and support gender-responsive teaching and learning.
The Government of Japan has donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to 15 Colleges of Education across Nigeria through a UNESCO -led initiative aimed at strengthening teacher training and expanding access to quality education.
The ICT facilities were officially handed over on June 2, 2026, during a ceremony at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja attended by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, Hitoshi Kozaki.
The donation forms part of Japan-funded project, Capacity Building of Teachers to Promote Continuous and Inclusive Access to Safe and Quality Education for Girls in West Africa, which is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA).
Under the programme, the 15 Colleges of Education received laptops, tablets, desktop computers, smart boards, projectors, printers and backup hard drives to strengthen teacher education, improve digital literacy and support gender-responsive teaching and learning.
The initiative is designed to enhance the capacity of teacher training institutions while promoting inclusive, technology-enabled education, particularly for girls and other vulnerable learners.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Kozaki reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting quality education in Nigeria and across Africa. He stressed the importance of investing in teachers as a means of improving learning outcomes and ensuring greater access to safe and inclusive education.
