The strategic partnership, launched on Tuesday, aims to make financial protection and wealth-building services more accessible to the millions of Ugandans who already use Airtel Money for everyday transactions.

Airtel Money Uganda  has partnered with Britam Uganda  to expand access to insurance, investment, and other financial solutions through mobile phones, marking a significant step in advancing financial inclusion across Uganda.

The strategic partnership, launched on Tuesday, aims to make financial protection and wealth-building services more accessible to the millions of Ugandans who already use Airtel Money for everyday transactions. By leveraging the mobile money platform, the two companies seek to simplify access to insurance and investment products while helping households and businesses improve their long-term financial resilience.

Speaking at the launch, Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Managing Director Japhet Aritho said mobile money has already transformed how Ugandans participate in the economy, and the next phase is to use the platform’s widespread reach to provide customers with financial protection and new opportunities for long-term financial security.

Britam Uganda Managing Director Allan Mafabi described the collaboration as a strategic partnership focused on impact rather than a single product. He said the initiative is designed to make financial protection and wealth-building solutions more accessible while helping individuals and businesses better withstand financial shocks and plan for the future.

The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) of Uganda also welcomed the partnership, with Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sande Protazio describing it as an important step towards narrowing Uganda’s insurance protection gap and strengthening financial resilience across the country.

The first product introduced under the partnership is Motor Third Party Insurance, which customers can purchase directly through Airtel Money by dialling *185*7*6*1#, entering their vehicle details, and authorising payment with their Airtel Money PIN. Upon successful payment, customers receive an SMS confirmation and can access their digital Motor Third Party insurance sticker online.

The partners said the initiative demonstrates how mobile technology can extend beyond payments to provide affordable, convenient financial protection, making essential insurance services available through a platform already trusted by millions of Ugandans.
