The launch marks the beginning of Kenya's annual budget formulation cycle, during which government ministries, agencies and stakeholders will work together to shape spending priorities for the 2027/28 financial year and the medium term.

Kenya has officially commenced preparations for its FY2027/28 national budget and medium-term fiscal framework, setting the stage for the country’s next phase of economic planning and public investment.

Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, Hon. John Mbadi, announced the launch of the FY2027/28 and Medium-Term Budget Preparation Process, outlining the government’s commitment to developing a budget that supports sustainable economic growth and inclusive development.

According to Mbadi, the budget will be anchored on the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), Kenya Vision 2030, and the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV). Priority sectors include agriculture, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), Universal Health Coverage (UHC), affordable housing, the Digital Superhighway initiative, and the Creative Economy.

The Treasury also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening fiscal discipline and advancing Public Finance Management (PFM) reforms. These efforts are aimed at improving efficiency in public spending while ensuring government resources are managed responsibly.

In addition, the government pledged to promote greater transparency, public participation and accountability throughout the budget preparation process, with the objective of ensuring that every public shilling delivers maximum value for Kenyan citizens.
