Kenya Seeks Public Input on Draft AI and Emerging Technologies Policy

Kenya has invited public comments on its Draft Artificial Intelligence and Other Emerging Technologies Policy, opening consultations on a national framework designed to guide the responsible development, deployment and governance of AI and emerging technologies. The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy said the consultation forms part of the constitutional requirement for public participation and will remain open until 4 August 2026.

The draft policy seeks to establish a national framework that promotes innovation while ensuring the safe, secure and responsible use of artificial intelligence. It outlines measures to strengthen digital infrastructure and human capital, support sustainable development, build public trust in AI systems, and safeguard Kenya’s economic resilience and strategic autonomy as emerging technologies become increasingly integrated into society.

The ministry has invited government institutions, private sector organisations, academia, civil society, professional bodies, innovators, development partners and members of the public to review the draft and submit their recommendations. Feedback can be submitted through an online consultation portal, by email or through written submissions addressed to the Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Other Emerging Technologies.

According to the ministry, the public consultation is intended to ensure the policy reflects the views of a broad range of stakeholders while laying the foundation for an inclusive, innovative, secure and trusted AI ecosystem. The initiative is part of Kenya’s broader efforts to strengthen its digital economy and establish a governance framework that supports the adoption of AI and other emerging technologies.
