Ethio Telecom Highlights ETB 73.5 Billion Tax Contribution and Expanding Economic Impact

Ethio Telecom has reaffirmed its commitment to Ethiopia’s national development and economic transformation, highlighting its significant contribution to public revenue, employment, and the country’s digital economy.
The state-owned telecommunications operator announced that it contributed ETB 73.5 billion in taxes during the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, bringing its cumulative tax payments to ETB 244.5 billion. The company said it has maintained its position as Ethiopia’s leading platinum taxpayer, earning a special recognition award for five consecutive years.
Beyond its tax contributions, Ethio Telecom said it partnered with customers to raise ETB 2.4 billion for the National Disaster Recovery Fund, demonstrating its commitment to supporting the country during times of crisis.
The operator also underscored its role as a major employer, noting that it provides direct permanent and contractual employment to 44,757 people. In addition, the company said it has built an extensive business ecosystem comprising 519,810 product and service distributors and telecom agents, 2,205 local suppliers, 1,213 value-added service partners, 138 franchise partners, and 693 international partners.
According to the company, this ecosystem supports employment and income opportunities for more than two million Ethiopians, reflecting the broader economic impact of its operations beyond the telecommunications sector.
Looking ahead, Ethio Telecom said it will continue investing in digital innovation while fulfilling its national responsibilities through tax compliance, job creation, and initiatives that combine technological advancement with social and economic development, supporting Ethiopia’s ongoing digital transformation.
