Ghana Expands One Million Coders Programme with 2,000 Additional Laptops
According to the ministry, the laptops will provide students with the tools needed to develop practical skills in key digital disciplines, including coding, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data analytics, and software development.
The Government of Ghana has handed over an additional 2,000 laptops to the University of Ghana to support the implementation of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP), increasing the total number of devices supplied to the institution to 2,500.
The handover ceremony took place at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) and was led by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George.
According to the ministry, the laptops will provide students with the tools needed to develop practical skills in key digital disciplines, including coding, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data analytics, and software development.
The government said the One Million Coders Programme is a flagship initiative aimed at equipping one million Ghanaians with industry-relevant digital skills to improve employability, foster innovation, and support the country’s broader economic transformation through technology.
During the event, Minister George described the laptop distribution as a significant investment in Ghana’s digital future and encouraged beneficiaries to use the devices to create innovative digital solutions, develop businesses, and contribute to the country’s growing technology ecosystem rather than simply consuming digital content.
The latest laptop donation reinforces the government’s efforts to strengthen digital skills development and build a workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
