Lesotho Launches National CSIRT and Cybersecurity Forum to Boost Digital Security
The initiative is designed to enhance Lesotho's ability to prevent, detect and respond to cybersecurity incidents while fostering collaboration among government, industry and other stakeholders on cybersecurity issues.
The Government of Lesotho has officially launched the LesCom Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) and the country’s inaugural National Cybersecurity Forum (NCF), marking a significant step in strengthening national cyber resilience and supporting the country’s digital transformation agenda.
The launch, held on 29 July 2026, was led by the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI). The initiative is designed to enhance Lesotho’s ability to prevent, detect and respond to cybersecurity incidents while fostering collaboration among government, industry and other stakeholders on cybersecurity issues.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, described the initiative as a critical milestone in securing Lesotho’s digital future. She noted that as technology continues to evolve, the country must strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities to protect government systems, businesses and citizens from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The minister said the cybersecurity strategy will provide a strong foundation for developing secure digital infrastructure, safeguarding digital payment systems and creating an environment that encourages innovation and investment. According to her, a secure digital economy is essential for expanding access to global markets and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Moorosi also highlighted the importance of protecting the country’s digital infrastructure to attract investment, noting that investors are more likely to do business in countries with robust cybersecurity frameworks and trusted digital systems. She added that building institutional trust would be essential to the successful implementation of the country’s cybersecurity strategy.
The establishment of the LesCom CSIRT and the National Cybersecurity Forum represents a major milestone in Lesotho’s efforts to build a safe, resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem. The government believes the initiative will strengthen national cyber preparedness while supporting broader digital transformation objectives and long-term economic development.
