Uganda ICT Ministry Backs Commercialisation of UICT Innovations
UICT said the visit reinforces its partnership with the Ministry as both institutions work to develop a digitally skilled workforce, strengthen applied research and innovation, and accelerate Uganda's digital transformation.
The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) has hosted the country’s new political leadership from the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance for a familiarisation visit aimed at strengthening collaboration on Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.
The delegation was led by Alioni Yorke Odria, Minister of State for ICT & National Guidance (National Guidance), who toured UICT’s specialised laboratories, smart classrooms and the National ICT Innovation Hub. The visit also featured demonstrations of immersive augmented and virtual reality (AVR) technologies and discussions on ongoing education reforms designed to strengthen Uganda’s digital skills ecosystem.
A key outcome of the visit was the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the commercialisation of innovations developed at the institute. Odria encouraged UICT to identify research and technology solutions that are ready for commercial deployment, assuring the institution of the Ministry’s support in transforming promising innovations into practical products and services that can create jobs, stimulate economic growth and address national development priorities.
The engagement concluded with an award and gift presentation ceremony recognising Aminah Zawedde for her continued policy leadership, technical guidance and commitment to the growth and transformation of UICT.
