Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation Boosts Access to Education with School Supplies Initiative

The Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation  is set to support more than 5,500 low-income families ahead of Ethiopia’s new academic year through the distribution of essential learning materials to students across its operational areas.

The initiative will see the Foundation distribute 60,000 exercise books and 11,000 pens to students in nine operational regions—North, North East, North West, Afar, West, Central, South, East 1 and East 2—to help ease back-to-school expenses for families. Distribution of the educational materials is expected to begin shortly to ensure students have the supplies they need as they return to the classroom.

According to the Foundation, the programme forms part of Safaricom Ethiopia’s broader commitment to promoting the social and economic wellbeing of the communities it serves. By providing basic educational materials, the company aims to reduce the financial burden many households face at the start of the school year while encouraging students to continue their education with confidence.

The company said education remains a key driver of both individual and national development, and initiatives such as this demonstrate its commitment to creating positive impact beyond telecommunications by supporting access to learning opportunities for children and young people across Ethiopia.

Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation added that the distribution will be carried out in collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure the educational materials reach the students who need them most.
