SMART Zambia and ITU Equip Mpika Youth Resource Centre to Boost Digital Skills
According to SMART Zambia, the initiative forms part of the Digital Transformation Centres Initiative, implemented in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts.
The SMART Zambia Institute, with support from the International Telecommunication Union , has handed over Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to the Mpika Youth Resource Centre as part of efforts to strengthen digital skills development and expand digital inclusion in Zambia.
The equipment donated includes computers, a projector and a multifunctional industrial printer. The handover was conducted by Brian Nawa Nawa, Assistant Director of Digital Skills and Capabilities, alongside Chunga Manzi, Principal Digital Skills and Capabilities Officer, and Hopeday Lupumpaula, Provincial ICT Officer. The equipment was officially received by Centre Manager Chisenga Evans, while Rodah Kamfwa, a centre employee, witnessed the ceremony.
According to SMART Zambia, the initiative forms part of the Digital Transformation Centres Initiative, implemented in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts. The programme is designed to equip young people and women with essential digital skills, enhancing their economic participation and empowerment through improved access to technology.
The Institute said similar ICT equipment handovers are planned for the Kalomo-Mukwela and Luwingu Youth Resource Centres, further extending the reach of the digital skills programme across the country.
SMART Zambia also highlighted its broader digital inclusion efforts, noting that in 2025 it deployed Starlink kits to 23 youth resource centres nationwide, transforming them into fully fledged Digital Transformation Centres to improve internet connectivity and expand digital access in communities across Zambia.
