Airtel Africa Foundation Expands Financial Inclusion for Women in Nigeria
The Foundation said the programme was piloted across major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Enugu and Kano, successfully onboarding 2,050 women into the formal financial system.
Airtel Africa Foundation has highlighted the impact of its Empower Her programme in Nigeria, where the initiative is helping women overcome barriers to accessing formal financial services and achieve greater economic independence.
The Foundation said the programme was piloted across major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Enugu and Kano, successfully onboarding 2,050 women into the formal financial system.
As part of the initiative, 300 women received mini-grants to start or expand their businesses, providing them with financial support to strengthen their entrepreneurial ventures. In addition, another 300 women were integrated into agent banking, enabling them to offer financial services within their communities while generating sustainable sources of income.
According to the Foundation, the participants demonstrated strong commitment and determination throughout the programme, underscoring the impact that access to financial tools and opportunities can have on women’s economic empowerment.
Airtel Africa Foundation said the Empower Her programme reflects its broader commitment to advancing financial inclusion across Africa by equipping women with the resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to their local economies.
