Safaricom Reshuffles Board, Appoints Two Vodacom Executives
Cassim is the Chief Executive Officer of Fintech at Vodacom Group Limited. She brings experience in corporate finance, deal structuring, mergers and acquisitions, commercial management and business development.
Safaricom PLC has announced the appointment of Miriam Cassim and Matimba Mbungela as Non-Executive Directors, effective August 13, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Cassim is the Chief Executive Officer of Fintech at Vodacom Group Limited . She brings experience in corporate finance, deal structuring, mergers and acquisitions, commercial management and business development. She has held senior positions within the Vodacom Group since 2017 and is a Chartered Accountant with a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Cape Town.
Mbungela is the Chief Officer for Human Resources at Vodacom Group Limited, a position he has held since 2014. He previously served in senior human resources roles at Vodacom and Vodafone, including Regional Head of Organisational Effectiveness and Change and Regional Head of Talent for Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
He has also held senior HR positions at multinational organisations including BMW South Africa and Unilever. Mbungela represents the Vodacom Employees Trust on the Vodacom Board as a Non-Executive Director and holds qualifications in business administration and human resources.
The Safaricom board also announced the resignation of James Ludlow and Dr. (Eng.) John Kipgetich Monisk as Non-Executive Directors, effective August 13, 2026.
