Delivering the Minister’s address, Sukparu said the theme reflects the government’s commitment to developing the policies, infrastructure, skills, institutions and partnerships needed to maximise opportunities created by the digital economy.

Ghana has opened its 2026 National ICT Week with a call for stronger collaboration among government, industry, academia and technology innovators to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, officially opened the celebration on behalf of Sector Minister Hon. Samuel Nartey George on Monday, August 17, 2026. The event, organised by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), is being held at the CEDI Conference Centre, University of Ghana, under the theme “Innovation at Scale: Creating Opportunities Across Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem.”

Delivering the Minister’s address, Sukparu said the theme reflects the government’s commitment to developing the policies, infrastructure, skills, institutions and partnerships needed to maximise opportunities created by the digital economy.

A key focus of the address was Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, launched in April 2026. Sukparu described the strategy as an important milestone providing a framework for the responsible and inclusive adoption of AI, with priorities including data governance, infrastructure, talent development, ethical use and practical applications across the economy.

Government has also begun an AI capacity-building programme for public-sector officials in partnership with UNESCO, UNDP and the Government of Japan to support implementation of the national AI strategy.

On digital skills development, the Deputy Minister highlighted the One Million Coders Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at equipping one million Ghanaians with practical coding and digital skills for employment, entrepreneurship and participation in the digital economy.

Sukparu disclosed that more than 12,000 course completions had already been recorded during the early weeks of Phase Two of the programme.

The 2026 National ICT Week is therefore positioning collaboration, artificial intelligence and digital skills development as key pillars of Ghana’s efforts to scale innovation and expand opportunities across its digital ecosystem.
