UNITEL Restores Core Mobile Services Nationwide After July Cyberattack

The company noted that temporary restrictions remain in place for changes to post-paid tariffs, though this affects only a limited number of users and is expected to be resolved in the coming weeks.

Angolan telecommunications operator UNITEL, S.A.  has announced the full restoration of its core mobile services nationwide following a sophisticated cyberattack launched against its technological infrastructure on July 28, 2026. The major cyber incident had caused widespread disruptions across the company’s network, but UNITEL confirmed that voice, messaging, data, and internet services—along with third-party network services—have now been fully restored across Angola. The only service remaining offline is the custom ringback tone feature (“toque de espera”), which the company plans to relaunch at a later date.

Commercial operations at UNITEL stores and agent locations have returned to normal, as have customer support services. The company noted that temporary restrictions remain in place for changes to post-paid tariffs, though this affects only a limited number of users and is expected to be resolved in the coming weeks.

Crucially, an ongoing forensic investigation conducted alongside independent external cybersecurity experts has yielded no evidence of unauthorized access, compromise, or sharing of customer or partner personal data. UNITEL emphasized that the investigation and continuous monitoring remain active, promising to report any new relevant developments in accordance with applicable laws.

To compensate users for the service disruption, UNITEL is automatically granting goodwill measures without requiring customers to initiate contact. Corporate accounts will receive invoice credits applied to their August or September bills, while individual subscribers will be awarded additional service days. Affected customers will receive direct updates detailing their compensation via SMS or email.
