Ghana and Malawi have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and knowledge sharing in digital transformation, public sector innovation and the delivery of efficient digital public services.

The commitment was made during a study visit by a delegation from Malawi to Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, focused on the country’s digital transformation initiatives and public sector innovation.

Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Minister, Deputy Minister Mohammed Adams Sukparu said Ghana was pleased to share its experience in using digital technologies to promote sustainable development and improve public service delivery.

He highlighted Ghana’s investments in digital infrastructure, digital identity, cybersecurity, e-government services, digital skills development and innovation ecosystems as key components of the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The engagement enabled officials from both countries to exchange experiences, discuss lessons learned and explore practical approaches to addressing common digital transformation challenges across Africa.

The Malawian delegation, led by Stuart Ligomeka, Deputy Chief Secretary at the Office of the President and Cabinet, described Ghana as an important reference point for Malawi’s digital transformation efforts.

Ligomeka said Malawi undertook the study tour after reviewing international experiences and identifying Ghana as a country that has made significant progress in using digital technologies and ICT to transform public services.

The delegation sought practical insights into Ghana’s digital government systems, institutional arrangements and approaches that could inform Malawi’s own digital transformation agenda.

The Malawian officials also stressed the importance of sustained technical cooperation between the two countries, proposing continued engagement between technical teams to facilitate specialised expertise and knowledge exchange.

Ligomeka emphasised that stronger collaboration among African countries would be essential to developing more responsive and effective digital systems across the continent.

The Malawi delegation included senior officials from the Office of the President and Cabinet, including Principal Secretaries for Reforms, Finance, Monitoring and Evaluation, and E-Government, as well as the Clerk to the Cabinet.

Ghanaian officials at the meeting included Chief Director Alexander Yaw Arphul and directors and deputy directors responsible for general administration, innovation and international relations.

The study tour underscores the growing role of cross-border knowledge sharing and government-to-government cooperation in advancing digital transformation and strengthening public sector innovation in Africa.
