TRANSCO Launches QR Code E-Ticketing System to Modernise Public Transport in DR Congo
Speaking through TRANSCO’s Communications and Press Unit, Kilubu highlighted three major benefits of the new electronic ticketing system. He said the reform would give the transport company greater control and visibility over its daily ticket revenue by enabling it to accurately track the number of tickets sold.
The Transport Company of the Democratic Republic of Congo (TRANSCO) has launched the pilot phase of its electronic ticketing system, introducing secure digital tickets featuring QR codes as part of efforts to modernise its operations and improve revenue management.
The initiative was officially launched on Monday, August 31, 2026, in Masina’s Quartier 3, where TRANSCO Director General Jérémie Kilubu Matondo scanned the first digital ticket QR code, marking the beginning of the pilot programme.
Speaking through TRANSCO’s Communications and Press Unit, Kilubu highlighted three major benefits of the new electronic ticketing system. He said the reform would give the transport company greater control and visibility over its daily ticket revenue by enabling it to accurately track the number of tickets sold.
The TRANSCO chief also explained that the system would introduce automated monitoring of ticket inspectors. Each inspector who checks passengers’ tickets will be identified on TRANSCO’s digital dashboard by name, employee identification number and the time of service. According to Kilubu, this will allow the company to monitor and trace the activities of individual inspectors more effectively.
Another key benefit, he said, is the ability to consolidate multiple paper tickets into a single digital ticket. He cited TRANSCO’s Line 31, which operates between Masina Quartier 3 and Maluku, as an example. For a journey costing 1,500 Congolese francs, passengers previously had to receive three separate tickets from the fare collector. The electronic system is expected to simplify this process by consolidating the transaction into a single digital ticket.
Following the launch, Kilubu travelled with TRANSCO’s Digital Director, Professor Kamuanga, Director of Operations Jonny Boyela, and other company officials and staff on a Line 31 bus from Masina Quartier 3 to Maluku.
The inaugural journey covered more than 50 kilometres and provided an opportunity for the TRANSCO management team to engage with regulators and ticket inspectors operating along the route.
The introduction of QR code-based electronic ticketing represents another step in TRANSCO’s digital transformation efforts, with the company seeking to improve transparency in revenue collection, strengthen operational oversight and provide passengers with a more efficient ticketing experience.
