Ghana Minister Assures Public of Cell Site Safety Amid Connectivity Expansion
The Ministry is leveraging existing Community Information Centres as technology hubs to expand access to digital training and prepare young people for opportunities in the technology-driven economy.
Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations , Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has assured the public that telecommunications cell sites are safe, as he toured digital infrastructure projects in the Eastern Region.
The Minister’s September 4, 2026 tour covered sites under the Rural Telephony Project, Community Information Centres (CICs), and a new site being constructed in Koforidua under the government’s 800-site expansion programme in partnership with MTN.
During visits to Rural Telephony Project sites in Dumpong, Obosono and Nsakye, George engaged residents to gather feedback on connectivity challenges and assess the quality of telecommunications services in underserved communities.
The Minister also used the engagements to address concerns surrounding the health and safety of telecommunications masts. He said the public should be reassured that the cell sites are not harmful and pointed to the use of similar network infrastructure within government facilities.
“We ask you to join us in making the public know that these cell sites are not harmful. In the Ministry of Communication, in the NCA building, we have in-building solutions. What you see on the sites, on the towers, we have them inside our buildings to make sure that the network is good. If it will harm an individual, we wouldn’t put them in our buildings to improve our own network.”

Beyond telecommunications infrastructure, the tour highlighted the government’s focus on digital skills development. At the Koforidua Regional Information Centre, George observed training activities under the One Million Coders Programme, which aims to equip young Ghanaians with coding and other digital skills.
The Ministry is leveraging existing Community Information Centres as technology hubs to expand access to digital training and prepare young people for opportunities in the technology-driven economy.
The Ministry said feedback gathered during the tour will inform further collaboration with network service providers to improve connectivity across the Eastern Region.
