Ericsson and Vodafone Egypt Deploy AI-Powered RAN Processor 6672

September 17, 2026
3 min read

Following the portfolio’s recent commercial launch in Japan, Egypt is among the leading markets to adopt the solution, highlighting the country’s continued progress in advancing AI-powered network capabilities, reflecting Vodafone Egypt's strategy of investing in network capability ahead of demand.

Ericsson  and Vodafone Egypt  announce the commercial deployment of Ericsson’s latest high-capacity and AI-powered RAN Processor 6672, part of the Ericsson RAN Compute portfolio, supporting the continued modernization of Vodafone Egypt’s radio access network. Following the portfolio’s recent commercial launch in Japan, Egypt is among the leading markets to adopt the solution, highlighting the country’s continued progress in advancing AI-powered network capabilities, reflecting Vodafone Egypt’s strategy of investing in network capability ahead of demand.

Deployment is a deliberate step toward a network that can use AI where it matters most, at the radio site itself. RAN Processor 6672 is built for 5G Advanced and AI workloads, which gives Vodafone Egypt the processing power to run AI directly at the radio site rather than at a central AI location. Network conditions change constantly as people move, gather, and use their phones throughout the day. Running AI close to the radio means the network can respond to changes as they occur, rather than relying on settings that engineers adjust only periodically.

RAN Processor 6672 delivers up to four times higher processor capacity while reducing energy consumption by more than 50 percent. It also enables Vodafone Egypt to simplify its radio sites by replacing three basebands with one RAN processor. The simplified setup helps reduce site complexity and energy consumption.

For Vodafone Egypt, this translates into higher investment efficiency: extracting more performance from the existing assets (spectrum and sites), , directing radio capacity to where customers are using it, and improving the user experience without a proportional increase in energy consumption.

“We are investing for a future-ready network. With Ericsson’s RAN Processor 6672, we are increasing our efficiency in terms of processing power and energy consumption for our Ericsson Radio Sites, while enabling AI to run directly on the Radio Site for better customer experience.”

– Catalin Buliga, Technology Director, Vodafone Egypt

“The deployment of RAN Processor 6672 supports Vodafone Egypt in addressing growing capacity requirements while simplifying radio sites and improving energy efficiency. It also creates a stronger foundation for continued network evolution and the introduction of new capabilities as traffic demand and network requirements continue to grow.”

– Dalia Merheb, Country Manager and Head of Sales, Ericsson Egypt

Ericsson is a main RAN supplier to Vodafone Egypt across Greater Cairo and the Delta. Building on their longstanding partnership, Ericsson and Vodafone Egypt will continue working together to advance the network and support Vodafone Egypt’s connectivity ambitions.
