Safaricom said the pathways represent a shift from dialogue to implementation, bringing together business leadership, government partnerships and innovation to support Africa’s inclusive growth and sustainable development agenda.

Safaricom Group  CEO Peter Ndegwa has been named a champion of the Digital Transformation Pathway under the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) , as the initiative moves from establishing frameworks to implementing sector-focused action.

The Action Pathways were launched at the 2025 Global Africa Business Initiative to provide year-round platforms for collaboration, investment and implementation around Africa’s key development priorities.

At GABI 2026, the initiative announced sector champions tasked with accelerating delivery and mobilising public- and private-sector action.

The Digital Transformation Pathway, championed by Ndegwa alongside Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, will focus on expanding digital infrastructure, modernising public services, developing future-ready digital skills, empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and advancing responsible artificial intelligence and data governance.

A separate Health Pathway, championed by Roche Pharma International Area Head for Africa Maturin Tchoumi and AUDA-NEPAD CEO Nardos Bekele-Thomas, will focus on strengthening health systems through digital health innovation, resilient pharmaceutical supply chains, increased healthcare investment and workforce development.

Safaricom said the pathways represent a shift from dialogue to implementation, bringing together business leadership, government partnerships and innovation to support Africa’s inclusive growth and sustainable development agenda.
