Egypt and Orange Expand Digital Cooperation With AI Training and Startup Support
As part of the planned digital capacity-building efforts, Orange announced training grants for around 200,000 trainees in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, including opportunities to obtain internationally recognised certifications.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has met Orange Group CEO Christel Heydemann to discuss expanding cooperation in telecommunications, information technology and digital transformation, with the company announcing new initiatives focused on digital skills, startups and advanced technology. The meeting was held on September 27, 2026, in the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindy, Orange Middle East and Africa CEO Yasser Shaker and Orange Egypt CEO Hesham Mahran.
During the meeting, El-Sisi highlighted Orange’s activities in Egypt across telecommunications, digital transformation, smart platforms, community development and digital education. He also expressed Egypt’s interest in increasing Orange’s investments in the Egyptian market and expanding cooperation around technology and youth development.
The discussions included potential cooperation on the second phase of Egypt’s National Digital Health Project. The project could draw on Orange’s expertise in digital infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity and systems integration.
The two sides also discussed preparing Egyptian young people for the future labour market through specialised training in artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing and cybersecurity, alongside internationally recognised professional certifications.

Orange will also allocate €25 million to support startups working in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies. In addition, the company has committed to supporting several Egyptian universities by equipping them with modern technology laboratories to give students access to practical applications and skills in advanced digital technologies.
Heydemann said Orange’s experience in Egypt could provide a model for similar initiatives in other countries across the region, particularly Africa. She also welcomed Egypt’s efforts to support startups, develop youth skills, promote innovation and encourage entrepreneurship.
The meeting forms part of Egypt’s broader efforts to expand digital capacity building and cooperation with technology companies, while Orange’s announced programmes are expected to focus on skills development, startup support and the adoption of advanced technologies.
