South Africa’s ICASA Withdraws Telecom Affordability and OTT Inquiry Notices

ICASA said the Telecommunications Affordability Inquiry notice will be republished alongside a draft questionnaire for public comment.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA)  has withdrawn notices relating to its Telecommunications Affordability Inquiry and Inquiry into the Impact of Over-the-Top (OTT) Services.

The notices, published in Government Gazette Nos. 4130 and 4129 respectively, are being withdrawn to allow ICASA to address administrative and procedural matters and ensure better regulatory alignment.

ICASA said the Telecommunications Affordability Inquiry notice will be republished alongside a draft questionnaire for public comment.

The Authority will also republish the OTT Services Inquiry notice at a later date, with the revised notice expected to provide additional context and clearer guidance on how stakeholders can participate in the process.

Stakeholders who have already submitted comments on either inquiry will be given an opportunity to resubmit their submissions or provide additional information once the revised notices are published.

ICASA said it will announce the publication of the new notices through its usual communication channels to ensure stakeholders have a full opportunity to participate in both inquiries.

The Authority apologised for any inconvenience caused by the withdrawal of the notices.
