The spectrum licences will run for 15 years. Under the notice of award, MTN Ghana will receive two 20 MHz lots in the 700 MHz band, while the 3 GHz band allocation includes 1 x 150 MHz. The licence fees are valued at approximately $100.9 million for the 700 MHz spectrum and $101.1 million for the 3 GHz spectrum.

MTN Ghana  has received a notice from Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA)  for the award of additional spectrum in the 700 MHz and 3 GHz bands to support 5G and mobile broadband services.

MTN Ghana is currently completing the formalities and payment obligations required to finalise the licence acquisition. The company said the licence payments have already been incorporated into its equity free cash flow outlook.

Once the licences are issued, MTN Ghana plans to deploy the additional spectrum alongside its existing spectrum holdings to increase network capacity, improve service quality and enhance the customer experience across Ghana.

The additional spectrum is also expected to support MTN Ghana’s efforts to expand 5G mobility and advance its plans to connect homes to high-speed broadband services.

The announcement comes as MTN marks 30 years of operations in Ghana. MTN Group and MTN Ghana said they will continue to provide updates on material developments as the company progresses with the rollout of the newly awarded spectrum and high-speed 5G services.
